The Relationship Between Self-Leadership and Nursing Professionalism on Career Preparation Behavior in University Nursing Students

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify what, if any, are the effects of self-leadership and nursing professionalism on nursing students¡¯behavior in regard to their career preparation. The data was collected from April 1 to April 30, 2018. The participants were 174 nursing students who completed self-reporting questionnaires that covered the topics of self-leadership, nursing professionalism and career preparation behavior. The SPSS/Win 24.0 Program was used for descriptive statistics, the t-test, ANOVA, and the Pearson correlational coefficients. The average scores for self-leadership, nursing professionalism and career preparation behavior were 3.60, 3.72, and 2.34 respectively. This study found a significant positive correlation between self-leadership, nursing professionalism and career preparation behavior in the participants. It is important to provide educational programs focusing on career preparation that take in consideration the academic year of the nursing students. Additionally, it is recommended to develop educational programs that aim to improve the nursing professionalism of nursing students.
